Just Be Aware
Although the Brother SE400 is given a five star rating by most users, there are a few valid complaints that people have made. It is worth you knowing what you might be up against if you choose to buy this machine:
- Some people are sorry that they didn’t fork out the extra $300 and buy a “proper” embroidery machine that would embroider larger motifs that just 4″x4″. So think carefully. If you think you might really get into the embroidery side with gusto, you may be better off paying the extra for the Brother PE770 embroidery only machine.
- Other downsides are that the machine does not come with a hard carrying case. You can easily overcome this problem by purchasing a Brother 5300 Universal hard carrying case or upgrade the the Project Runway mentioned above.
- Some have encountered problems when trying to sew through really thick fabrics. This is something that you will need to consider. If you intend on earning money from making handbags or similar, maybe the Brother SE400 is not for you. Consider the Brother PE770.
- Some have had problems getting their tension right but always seem to have overcome it. This is often the result of threading the machine incorrectly.
